- Skip the hassle and hide all your desktop icons instead. If you’re using a PC with an empty desktop, this option will also let you re-enable all those hidden icons. To hide or unhide all your desktop icons, right-click on your desktop, point to “View,” and click “Show Desktop Icons.” This option works on Windows 10, 8, 7, and even XP.
- First, open a terminal window — press Command+Space, type Terminal, and press Enter. In the terminal, type the following command, including a space at the end of it: chflags hidden. Drag-and-drop a folder or file from the Finder into the terminal window. The path of the file or folder will appear in the terminal.
- Now, click Apps, and you'll be in the App Store for your mobile devices. Aside: how odd is it that, on your Mac, when you add Apps to your iTunes, it's not the Mac App Store?
- Accidentally hid mac boot drive from my Clover bootloader. Hey everyone I did something stupid. I was trying to clean up my Clover boot screen after updating to 10.13.3 and I know which line exactly in the config.plist messed up my bootloader.
Open the App Store app. Tap on the “Today” tab at the bottom of the screen (you can also tap on ‘Updates’) In the upper right corner of the screen, tap on your profile avatar logo. Tap on “Purchased”. Locate the app you want to hide, then swipe left on it. Tap on the red “Hide” button that appears next to the app name.

Works fine in 10.7.2 as well. Thanks, I’d accidentally hidden an app and couldn’t see how to get it back before now!

Sweet, I was not aware we could finally hide apps, so that is the hint for me since I've wanted this since the store opened! (When was this added? I rarely read release notes, so I wasn't aware of this.) Now I can finally remove all those crap free apps that I tried and quickly decided I didn't want!

Nice, but does anyone know how to completely delete apps from the devices sync-setup lists? I have excessive clutter because I've downloaded (OK, 'purchased' -- but for free) apps only to find that they are crap and so I'll never use them and just want them to 'go away.' However, even 'though they're hidden in the app store, they persist in the sync-setup lists for the iDevices upon which they were installed and later removed.
I've even deleted the applicable '.ipa' files under ~/Music/iTunes/iTunes Media/Mobile Applications/ on the various authorized machines that host the various iDevices but all the apps (i.e., including the 'hidden' ones) still appear in each devices 'Apps' lists in iTunes (i.e., for the Mac-to-device syncing setup).
While it's easy to understand why you shouldn't be able to lose track of items you've paid money for -- and I do see significant value in keeping track of which ones I've tried and rejected -- I don't see any value in continuing to clutter up the sync-setup lists with items I've hidden (and even completely deleted, locally).
[getting off the soap-box] Seems like Apple simply has a bad app-titude when it comes to removal. <word-play intended>

Coincidentally, 'cause of something else I was doing, I found the (somewhat obvious) solution -- select the 'Apps' section in iTunes (i.e., on the left sidebar) and you can delete the entries. Du-oh!
